No. 4 Cypress Beats Fullerton, Stays Undefeated

Cypress, ranked fourth in the state, remained undefeated with a 5-0 victory over Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer game Friday.

The Chargers (9-0, 3-0) did not give up a shot on goal and got goals from Vedda Desatoff, Lizzy Schilling, Carrie Hurst, Aja Cordova and Val Brice.

In another conference women’s soccer game:

Orange Coast 6, Rancho Santiago 0--Orange Coast scored five goals in the second half. Kelly Wilkins had two goals for the Pirates (9-2-2, 2-1).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Fullerton 3, Cypress 0--Goalies Mike Clines and Domi Peralta combined for seven saves for the shutout. The shutout was the Hornets third of the season. David Baker, Andy Wirz and Sean Evans each scored goals for Fullerton (7-6-1, 3-2-0).

At the Saddleback men’s water polo tournament:

Mt. San Antonio 17, Fullerton 14--Mt. San Antonio took a two-point lead at halftime when goalkeeper Gilbert Valenzuela scored on a shot that went the length of the pool. Fullerton cut the lead to one goal four times in the second half but could not regain the lead.

The Hornets defeated Palomar, 16-11, in an earlier game.

Chaffey 9, Saddleback 8--Alan Shumway’s two-point goal with 1:41 left in the game gave Chaffey (15-11-1) a one-point lead. Saddleback is 13-12-1. Pejman Zanjani scored four goals in Saddleback’s earlier victory over Cerritos, 14-8.
