A fund-raiser Nov. 2 will benefit the Homeless Intervention and Shelter House, which provides temporary housing and other services.

The event will begin with a 5 p.m. shelter tour, followed by a dinner and an auction featuring items ranging from bats and baseballs autographed by California Angel players to vacation packages and a home-cooked dinner for 10 people.

The shelter, founded by Placentia Presbyterian Church in 1989, can accommodate as many as 29 people. It offers stays for as long as 120 days while residents save money to move into their own housing.

Volunteers help residents to achieve goals of self-sufficiency and offer encouragement and counseling. Efforts are aimed at empowering people to move out of the cycle of homelessness.

Tickets for the dinner are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $75 for a table of eight.

Information and tickets: (714) 970-7559.
