Intel Says Some Pentium Chips in Short Supply: The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said it is having some problems meeting surging demand for its products, particularly the higher-end Pentium Pro 200 microprocessor, which is used in sophisticated computers and computer servers. Intel Corp. will cut prices on its Pentium Pro chips next Friday. Pentium chips won’t see another price cut until February. Intel also said it is delaying a new multimedia processor until the first quarter of next year to make room in its factories for building more Pentium and Pentium Pro chips. Holiday buyers aren’t likely to be hurt by the shortage because most big personal computer makers have already bought the chips that will be in PCs sold in the next two months. Intel shares fell $2.125 to $105.375 on Nasdaq.
