In Llamaland: Animal rescue operations went off virtually without a hitch during the fast-moving Calabasas-Malibu fire. The semi-final count: 311 horses, 32 dogs, 22 cats, 2 burros, 7 birds, 2 goats, 5 rabbits, 3 llamas and 2 rats. . . . “I assume the latter were the domesticated kind,” said county animal regulation Director Frank Andrews. . . . The city of Agoura Hills Disaster Response Team was credited for its well-drilled volunteers. “We had a lot of people helping in ‘93, so many in fact that it was sometimes chaotic,” said Frank Bongiorno of the Agoura shelter. “This time, it was definitely a lot smoother.”
Rerun Fans: Actor James MacArthur and others of “Hawaii Five-O” fame are in town for the first of a two-part reunion and convention. Fans of the long-running TV series will party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Burbank Airport Hilton. Then on to Honolulu for more fun Tuesday through Nov. 2. . . . Book ‘em, Danno.
On the Ball: Quartz Hill High senior Matt Matros is on the offense in the TV studio. A guard on his football team, the honors student is host of his own weekly sports talk show (C12). . . . The next John Madden? Nope. Matt sees his future as a sports agent.
Not His Day: Carjacking is serious stuff. A North Hollywood man tried to stop one by leaping onto the rear of his vehicle as it sped away. He is recovering at home from a gunshot wound to the leg (B4). Advice from one LAPD detective: “Being a Dirty Harry these days is not worth it . . . especially if the suspect is armed.”
