Walkout Ends Talks on Bixby Project

Talks on Bixby Ranch’s proposal for a development in College Park East have broken down, officials said this week, as citizens continue to be divided over the plan.
A public meeting that had been scheduled for community members to review and discuss the development plans never took place because about half of the dozen people who showed up subsequently walked out, City Councilwoman Patty Campbell said.
Campbell said she showed up about 15 minutes late for the 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday and found that half the group had already left. She said the walkout was to protest letters written to a local newspaper in violation of a moratorium on which the pro- and anti-development factions had agreed.
Bixby has been working for years to obtain approval for the development of land it owns in the northern section of the city.
The neighborhood is sharply divided over the type of development it would consider acceptable, with some favoring residential and others supporting commercial.
