Ruling Party Claims Local-Elections Win

Albania’s ruling Democratic Party, widely accused of rigging national elections in May, claimed victory in the country’s municipal voting. Foreign Minister Tritan Shehu said his Democratic Party won 61% of the mayoral races in Sunday’s voting while the opposition Socialists won less than 10%. He said turnout was 75%. Some international monitors said the elections were free and fair, but the Socialist Party accused the Democrats of fraud.
