No. 7 Aliso Niguel Handles Costa Mesa
ALISO VIEJO — After the season’s opening week, Aliso Niguel was among the county’s undefeated teams--but only barely. The Wolverines had held off Hillard of Ohio by one point. Now, though, they are still undefeated and they aren’t squeaking by opponents.
Running back Scott Nemeth rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns and the seventh-ranked Wolverines defeated visiting Costa Mesa, 21-7, in a Pacific Coast League football game Friday.
Steve Herzog, Nemeth’s Costa Mesa counterpart, helped Costa Mesa take a 7-0 first-quarter lead on a one-yard touchdown run.
However, from there, Nemeth and the Aliso Niguel offensive line dominated the game. Nemeth scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter to tie the score at the half, 7-7.
Nemeth gave Aliso Niguel (6-0, 1-0 in league) the lead for good with a seven-yard run in the third quarter. His final touchdown came on a 24-yard run in the fourth.
Herzog led Costa Mesa with 43 yards in 14 carries. Quarterback Dan Baume completed three of six passes for 42 yards for Costa Mesa (3-3, 0-1).
