O say can you see . . . a 3-year-old singing the national anthem?
If you were at Royal High on Thursday night, you probably did, when Allison Guzman sang the anthem before the Highlanders’ Marmonte League volleyball match against Camarillo.
She learned the lyrics while watching the Summer Olympics. When her grandmother, Mary Alice, approached Royal athletic officials, they loved what they heard.
“She holds a tune,†Royal Coach Bob Ferguson said. He was especially impressed with Allison’s final stanza. “She even added a little pizazz at the end,†he said.
Guzman, who watched the Olympics almost every night while recovering from appendix surgery, is enjoying the attention. And she can handle the media.
“My name is A-L-L-I-S-O-N,†she said. “When I’m 4 [next April], I’m going to learn to tie my shoes. I’m getting a baby chick and a turtle soon.â€
