American Home Products Recalls Diabetes Treatment: The drug company said it is taking its diabetes drug, tolrestat, off the market after a study failed to support earlier findings. Tolrestat has been used since 1988 to treat complications, such as nerve damage in diabetes patients, and had sales of less than $10 million last year, said Audrey Ashby, spokeswoman for American Home Products Corp.’s Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories unit, which sells the drug. Tolrestat is sold under the brand names Alredase, Alrestin and Lorestat in several European countries and Mexico. It isn’t sold in the U.S.
