Los Alamitos Beats San Clemente in Water Polo
John Pearce scored the game-tying and winning goals in overtime as third-ranked Los Alamitos defeated No. 4 San Clemente, 11-10, in nonleague water polo Friday at Long Beach State.
Los Alamitos fell behind, 8-3, before rallying with six fourth-quarter goals to tie it, 9-9.
Tyler Wawrzynski led Los Alamitos (13-5) with five goals and Pearce had three. Jordan Hewko led San Clemente (7-5) with four goals.
In other nonleague water polo:
Cypress 12, Lakewood 10--Erik Sandvig paced Cypress with seven goals. The Centurions trailed before Sandvig tied it in the third quarter, 8-8. Cypress then scored three goals.
El Dorado 21, Fountain Valley 7--Kendall Benson, El Dorado’s leading scorer, scored 13 goals in the Golden Hawks’ romp. El Dorado is 11-4.
Estancia 10, Saddleback 5--Junior Brad Wayman scored more than half of Estancia’s goals with six. Bryan DeWilde, also a junior, recorded 11 saves for the Eagles (6-6). Saddleback is 6-3.
Foothill 19, Irvine 7--Steve Carter scored four goals and teammates Jeff Pflueger and Kevin McKee each had three goals for top-ranked Foothill (13-1).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 14, Magnolia 5--Brent Reimer scored six goals for Brea, which held Magnolia to two goals for three quarters.
In quarterfinal games of the Orange water polo tournament:
Woodbridge 6, Western 5 (sudden death)--Matt Kemp scored the game winning goal in sudden death as Woodbridge (6-9) advanced to play Garden Grove in the semifinals. Kemp had three goals. Jace Crispin and James VanRosmalen each scored two goals for Western (6-5).
Garden Grove 12, El Modena 6--Brandon Osborne scored five goals and Jeff Colton had four as Garden Grove (10-2) advanced to the semifinals.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Orange 11, Connelly 7--Orange (7-4) won eight of nine doubles sets led by Kris Gonzalez and Allison Painter, who swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Reena Pandhi swept in singles, 6-3, 7-5, 6-0, for Connelly (5-5).
