Riverside Poly (1-3) vs. No. 3 Los Alamitos (4-0)
7 P.M. THURSDAY
LONG BEACH VETERANS STADIUM
Poly’s four opponents have a combined record of 14-2, and the Bears haven’t played anyone who wasn’t undefeated. Coach Shane Wiley considers Los Alamitos a good gauge to see how far his young team (only four players had appreciable varsity experience last year) has come since its opening-night, 50-7 loss to Norco. Zimbalist Carter is being heavily recruited, and along with another Division I recruit, Scott Goss, gives the Bears strength in the defensive backfield--which it will need against Los Alamitos. The Griffins have outscored opponents, 170-48, but those teams have a combined record of 4-12.
