Wyoming Extends Victory Streak to Nine, 45-22

Len Sexton rushed for 184 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead No. 25 Wyoming over San Jose State, 45-22, Saturday at San Jose.

The Cowboys (6-0), who have won nine consecutive games, have the nation’s second-longest winning streak. Miami has won 11 in a row.

Sexton, who rushed 17 times, gained 135 yards on two runs. He scored on runs of 68 and five yards and also caught a 12-yard screen pass for a touchdown.

The game was surprisingly competitive before a key juncture late in the first half.

Trailing 21-14, San Jose State (1-5) gained nothing on a fourth-and-inches play at the Wyoming three. On the next play, Sexton ran 68 yards to the Spartan 29 to set up Cory Wedel’s 39-yard field goal with 1:33 left.

No. 24 Utah 34, Texas El Paso 27--Chris Fuamata-Ma’Afala scored three second-half touchdowns--including two in a three-minute span of the fourth quarter--to rally the Utes from a 10-point deficit at El Paso.

The Miners (2-3, 0-2) scored two touchdowns in a 48-second span midway through the fourth quarter for a 27-17 lead. Utah (3-0, 5-1) answered with Daniel Pulsipher’s 38-yard field goal before Fuamata-Ma’Afala--a 6-foot, 275-pound running back--ran 24 yards for his second touchdown.

His final touchdown completed a four play, 70-yard scoring drive with just under four minutes to play.

Missouri 27, Southern Methodist 26--The Mustangs’ Daniel Hernandez hit the right upright and missed a 35-yard field-goal attempt as time expired in a nonconference game at Dallas.

Hernandez also missed a 37-yard field-goal attempt and had two extra points blocked, one of which was returned for two points by Missouri’s Clayton Baker.

Missouri improved to 2-3 and SMU fell to 2-4. The Tigers’ victory gave the Big 12 a split of its 12 games with the WAC.

Rice 38, New Mexico 21--Quarterback Chad Nelson ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns and the Owls gained 481 yards rushing for their first-ever WAC victory at Houston.

The Lobos (4-2, 1-2) were unable to solve the Rice option in a game played in intermittent rain.

The Owls (2-3, 1-1) averaged a school-record 8.3 yards per carry.
