Mary Star 20, St. Genevieve 0--Gary Yamashita completed nine of 21 passes for 158 yards but the Valiants (1-3, 0-1) dropped a Santa Fe League opener at Birmingham High.
St. Genevieve had a chance to score on their first possession, driving to the 14-yard line, but Yamashita fumbled a snap that was recovered by Arturo Gonzalez for Mary Star. The Stars led, 6-0, at the half and extended the lead to 12-0 in the third quarter.
The Valiants again failed to covert, this time at the Stars’ 16-yard line early in the fourth quarter. They were at the 10 when time expired.
Kevin Hanson caught three passes for 78 yards for St. Genevieve.
