Whittier 6, Whittier Christian 0--Whittier running back Connor Scott scored a last-minute touchdown for the Cardinals at Whittier College.
Both teams struggled offensively, as neither team could take advantage of scoring opportunities throughout most of the game. The Heralds had the best opportunity when the Cardinals failed to punt the ball away as the snap when over punter Chris Jimenez’s head, giving the Heralds possession on the Cardinals’ 24. The Heralds (0-4) were unable to turn that drive into points as it ended on a missed field-goal attempt.
Penalties hurt the Cardinals as a clipping call nullified a 39-yard touchdown run by Scott.
The Cardinals (1-3) began the second half in good field position with the ball in Whitter Christian’s territory but could not score.
The game was scoreless after three quarters but Whittier’s Scott rushed 71 yards to consume 8:37 of the quarter. He ended the drive by scoring from eight yards with 54 seconds left.
For the night, Scott rushed 141 yards in 30 carries.
“I thought he played super,” Cardinal Coach Walter Scott said. “He was our money player.”
