The First Shall Be Last

Professor James McGaugh gets an “F” for identifying the Class of 2000 as the “first class of the 21st century” (“UCI Offers Class of 2000 Its 1st Lesson,” Sept. 25). Just as the 1st century began with the year 1 and ended with the year 100, so will the 21st century--and the 3rd millennium--begin on the first day of the year 2001. The Class of 2000 will enjoy the unique distinction of being the last class of the 20th century.
