Playing with a gun turned deadly in Reseda when a man put a loaded firearm to the back of a friend’s head and killed him when the weapon accidentally discharged, police said.
Hector M. Quintero, 20, was arrested Thursday night and accused in the death of Jorge Capuchino, 18.
Quintero and others at the Gault Street apartment where Capuchino was killed, initially told police the dead man was shot by three unknown assailants, said Los Angeles Police Det. Rick Swanston of the West Valley Division.
“The officers found the body of Capuchino lying face down on a couch in the apartment living room,” the detective said.
“Quintero had been playing with the gun and had placed it at the back of Capuchino’s head when it accidentally discharged,” the detective said.
Panicked, Quintero threw the gun out of a window, where police later found it, Swanston said.
Quintero was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held at the West Valley Jail on $1-million bail, police said.
