What began as a routine traffic stop in Castaic ended with the arrests of three men on charges of possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The men were traveling on Castaic Road in a truck about 8:55 p.m. Wednesday when they were stopped for a traffic violation, said Lt. Larry Gump of the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station.
A search of the vehicle turned up 25 pounds of uncut methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $400,000 and a loaded 9-millimeter handgun, he said.
Those arrested were Arturo Alejo, 34, of Santa Ana, Thomas DeDios, 26, of Long Beach and Marcos Mondragon, 28, of Long Beach, Gump said.
They were being held at the Santa Clarita station in lieu of $200,000 bond, he said.
