Council Candidates to Speak at Forum
Candidates vying for three open City Council seats will discuss their platforms and answer questions at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Costa Mesa Country Club, 1701 Country Club Drive.
Mesa Pride, a community improvement association, is hosting the event. Eight of the 10 candidates have confirmed their attendance, said Arlene Schafer, Mesa Pride president.
Candidates expected are Mayor Joe Erickson; Planning Commission director Libby Cowan; Mel Fleener, a building inspector for the city of Fullerton; Caroline Butler, a marketing manager for a software firm; Heather Somers, director of the East Side Neighborhood Assn.; Robert Graham, a mortgage broker; and James A. Fisler, a regional manager for Nordstrom Inc.
Two hopefuls, Casey E. Evans, a food server, and Lawrence Jones, a district representative for Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach), are not expected to attend, Schafer said.
Each candidate will be asked to speak for two to three minutes. A question-and-answer session will follow.
Another forum, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Triangle Square, Newport Boulevard at 19th Street.
