* Re “MTA Pledges Better Bus Service in Suit Accord,” Sept. 26: Good grief! The MTA still doesn’t get it! Rail is expensive and inefficient. Yet MTA officials still say that even this settlement won’t slow down their expenditures for rail.
Buses will always be cheaper and more flexible than rail. If MTA officials were serious about serving the community rather than empire building, they would upgrade buses, make them cleaner and more comfortable and thereby increase the quantity of ridership while also attracting more upscale riders.
