Three men who were standing in a crowd outside a home were wounded in an exchange of gunfire with occupants of a passing car, police said Sunday.

Phillip Richards, 21, of Huntington Beach and Jose Sanchez, 18, of Anaheim both suffered superficial gunshot wounds and were treated and released Sunday from Columbia Huntington Beach Hospital and Medical Center, said Lt. Bob Amren of the Westminster Police Department.

The third victim, Miguel Hernandez, 22, of Anaheim, suffered a broken right arm and was held in the hospital overnight for observation, Amren said.

The shooting occurred at 11:42 p.m. Saturday in front of a home on Sunside Avenue, east of Edwards Street, Amren said. While a group of about 15 people stood talking outside the home, a dark-colored minivan drove by and one of the occupants opened fire with a 9-millimeter handgun and then fled, Amren said.

Some people outside the home returned fire before taking the three wounded men to the hospital, Amren said.

Amren said the incident is believed to be gang-related.
