A 79-year-old woman walking through a parking lot at Hansen Dam Park on Sunday evening was struck by a pickup truck that then drove over her chest and left the scene without stopping, authorities said.

Maria Barron of Sunland suffered a possible broken pelvis and broken ribs as well as internal injuries, said Sgt. John Amott of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division. She underwent surgery at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center late Sunday night.

Barron was walking in the park near the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Osborne Street when a full-size Chevrolet pickup backed up rapidly, knocked her to the ground and then continued backward, driving over her, Amott said witnesses reported. Investigators are seeking the truck and its driver based on information from witnesses. The truck is a 1980s model and is described as red or burgundy.

Also on Sunday, a four-vehicle collision occurred at about 8 p.m. in the 16900 block of Sherman Way near Balboa Boulevard, said Brian Humphrey, a Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman.

The accident in Reseda resulted in five people being taken to area hospitals. Two were in critical condition, Humphrey said.

Police did not release the identities of the victims Sunday night.
