Saddened by Hunters

It saddened me greatly to see a photograph of hunters (“Irish Back Roads,” Sept. 1). Once I read the article, it saddened me even more to realize why this photograph was displayed: ignorance regarding the cruelty of hunting.
The fox isn’t merely given “a fright”; the purpose of a fox hunt is to have fun torturing as many foxes to death as possible. Hound dogs chase the fox; if they catch it, they savage it to death.
I would urge your readers: Please don’t be taken in by chocolate box scenes of “smart hunting attire.” I suggest anyone stumbling across a hunt try to follow it and witness its shameful end.
