Walt Disney World Is 25 Years Old
DisneyWorld will be 25 years old Tuesday, and the Lake Buena Vista, Fla., theme park and resort is celebrating.
On Tuesday, it will open Disney’s BoardWalk, a waterfront “village†that aims to create the flavor of the Mid-Atlantic coast circa 1930. It includes 910 rooms at BoardWalk Inn and BoardWalk Villas, a dance hall, pub and dining. On Wednesday, the world’s largest Disney store opens, with 12 shopping areas. There’s also a new roller coaster at Mickey’s Toontown Fair.
The 185-foot-tall Cinderella Castle, a park icon, is being redesigned as a giant birthday cake with 25 candles. One-day passes at the resort for adults and children down to age 10 are $44.81; $32.86, ages 3-9; under 3, free.
Meanwhile, at Disneyland Paris, just outside the French capital, the central building at Sequoia Lodge is open for reservations after a fire Sept. 7 that damaged about 200 of its rooms, a Disneyland Paris spokesman said. Most rooms are now reopened; the rest are expected to reopen in a month or two. The fire is believed to have been accidental.
