May Leads Long Beach State Past UC Irvine

Misty May recorded 13 kills and 35 assists to help sixth-ranked Long Beach State defeat host UC Irvine, 15-6, 15-3, 15-1, in a Big West Conference women’s volleyball match Saturday.

The 49ers are 14-0.

May put away 13 of 14 attempts for an .857 hitting percentage. Michelle Jones had 10 kills and nine digs and Jenn Snyder had eight kills and four aces for Long Beach.

Cynthia Trotter led the Anteaters (1-12, 0-2) with eight kills and seven digs.

In another Big West Conference match:

Pacific 3, Cal State Fullerton 1--Heather Bassett had 21 kills and 11 digs to lead the Titans, who lost at home, 15-7, 9-15, 15-6, 15-3. Jennifer Erickson had 15 kills and 17 digs for Cal State Fullerton (8-5, 0-2).

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Chapman 3, Occidental 2--Jason Hospedales scored in the first half, and Shaun Parchan and Ozzie Martinez had second-half goals to give Chapman (3-2) a 3-1 lead.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer:

Southern California College 0, Azusa Pacific 0 (2 OT)--Goalie Charmaigne Rosselle had seven saves in the shutout for Azusa Pacific (2-5-2, 0-2-1). Ricia Gonnering had four saves for SCC (5-4-1, 0-1-1).

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo:

UC Irvine 12, UC Santa Barbara 4--Ryan Bailey, Ofer Horn, Greg Finley and Jeff Andrews each scored two goals to lead fourth-ranked UC Irvine (4-3, 2-0). The victory broke a three-game losing streak for the Anteaters.

Ryan Peddycord scored twice for UC Santa Barbara (0-7, 0-2).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:

Concordia 3, Southern California College 1--Minna Hudvila had 24 kills and Terilyn Walker had 19 for Concordia (6-10, 1-4), which won its first conference match, 15-17, 15-12, 15-9, 15-13.
