William Stobaugh; Musician, Rock Video Director

William Stobaugh, 42, a music video director and one of the original members of the Thelonious Monster rock band. He was born in Awali, Bahrain, where his father worked for an American oil company, and grew up in Belmont, Mass. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at CalArts and excerpts from his thesis film appeared in the Disney film “Tron.” Stobaugh wrote three songs on the rock band’s first records and went into directing motion picture special effects and music videos. His direction of “Mother’s Milk,” a music video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, won a gold compact disc, cassette and album. On Thursday in Los Angeles of complications after heart surgery.
