Veterans Group Picks Chief

SALT LAKE CITY — Joseph J. Frank, who was paralyzed from the waist down by a land-mine explosion during the Vietnam War, has been elected to lead the 3-million-member American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans organization.
Frank, 48, of Sappington, Mo., was chosen Thursday at the legion’s 78th national convention. He was permanently paralyzed in 1968 while serving with the 39th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam.
