Animal Control Gets New Phone Number
Residents of the city of San Fernando have to dial a new phone number to request field service from Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control, officials announced.
The new number routes calls previously directed to the county’s central dispatch system to the Castaic Shelter, which serves San Fernando, said Bob Ballenger, an administrator with Animal Care and Control.
“We’re trying to relieve some of the pressure on the system and speed things up a bit, said Ballenger, who noted that the agency received more than half a million calls last year and almost 150,000 requests for service, an increase of 16% from the previous year.
San Fernando has a contractual agreement with Los Angeles County to provide animal control services.
The new telephone number to call for field services, or to inquire about lost pets that may be held at the Castaic Shelter, is (818) 367-8065.
Anyone interested in adopting a pet is encouraged to visit the shelter, 31044 N. Charlie Canyon Road in Castaic, said Lt. George Enriquez of Animal Care and Control.
“We have many adoptable dogs and cats that we want to place in homes,†Enriquez said. “All our adoptions include initial vaccinations and spaying and neutering for the animals as well as a free veterinary checkup.â€
The Castaic shelter hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and Saturday. The shelter is closed on Fridays, Sundays and legal holidays.
