The city’s fifth annual Youth Fishing Derby will be from 6 to 11 a.m. today on the Seal Beach Pier.
As many as 300 boys and girls are expected at the free event, sponsored by the Seal Beach Cities Rotary Club and the Seal Beach Recreation Department.
Participants must bring their own poles. Bait will be provided.
Recreation Supervisor Kathleen McGlynn said prizes will be awarded for the largest fish of each species caught during the derby, as well as for the largest fish overall.
The derby operates as a “catch and release” program, McGlynn said.
