Thousand Oaks Plays in Little League Regional
Thousand Oaks Little League begins play in the senior division (14-15-year-olds) western regional on Monday in Missoula, Mont. The winner of the four-team regional advances to the World Series in Kissimmee, Fla.
Thousand Oaks, composed primarily of players who won the 13-year-old World Series two years ago, defeated Long Beach twice last week in an area tournament to advance to the regional.
Long Beach included several players who won the Little League World Series in 1992 and 1993.
Thousand Oaks, 12-0 in tournament play, edged Long Beach, 6-5, Thursday in the area final. Sean Burroughs came to bat with a runner on second and one out in the seventh, but Thousand Oaks relief pitcher Kevin Howard picked off the runner and retired Burroughs on a grounder to second baseman Matt Rogers.
On Tuesday, Rogers allowed no runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief to enable Thousand Oaks to notch a 14-11 victory over Long Beach.
