SANTA ANA — The Pacific Symphony ended fiscal 1996 with a surplus of $15,000, balancing its budget for the fifth consecutive year, officials have announced.
Operating revenue for the period, which ended June 30, totaled $6,538,000 against expenditures of $6,523,000. Ticket revenue increased 7.5%, to $3,523,000 from $3,276,085.
Classic Series tickets increased from 74% of capacity to 78%. Pops Series tickets rose to 80% from 76%. But Summer (1995) Series ticket sales declined 3.6%, with the shortfall occurring in the midweek Fourth of July concert attendance, according to Louis Spisto, the orchestra’s executive director.
Revenue from contracted services was $781,000, a jump of 6%, resulting from increased ballet engagements.
The endowment fund grew to $2,704,922 from $2,546,331.
In other news, Janice Johnson has been elected president of the orchestra board. Former president Ron Hanson has become board chairman.
