$1 Shuttle Service Operates Weekdays
A new weekday shuttle service is running in the city between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The service, VanGo, covers an area bounded on the north by the Brea Mall, the city limits on the west, the Orange Freeway on the east and Craig Regional Park on the south.
For $1, the vans will pick up and drop off riders anywhere in that area, officials said.
To arrange a ride, customers may call (888) 97VanGO toll-free one hour before they wish to be picked up.
The shuttle also provides scheduled service every half hour at the Brea Mall, the Civic & Cultural Center and the Brea Marketplace.
“We think this service will be especially attractive to youth and seniors for getting around town,†City Manager Frank Benest said.
The air-conditioned vans feature on-board communications systems that link with a computer-assisted dispatching center, he said.
The service, which is paid for in part by a grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority, is part of a larger, one-year project involving Brea, Placentia and Yorba Linda.
Each city has a slightly different version of the shuttle service.
Transfers to OCTA bus routes are included in the $1 fare.
After a one-year trial, officials will decide whether to continue the project.
