Woman Killed in Freeway Crash
One person was killed and two others were injured when a 16-year-old student driver lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a car parked on the side of the Antelope Valley Freeway near Lancaster, authorities said.
Holly Berrett, 51, of Lake Arrowhead died after her Nissan Maxima was struck by an Isuzu Trooper driven by Justin Garner of Springville about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol Officer Ken Lane said.
Berrett and her husband had just pulled over near the Avenue D overpass when Justin apparently over-corrected in windy conditions and rear-ended the Berretts’ car, Lane said. Justin has a learner’s permit and was driving with his mother, CHP Officer Scott Weldy said.
Both Justin and his mother, Kathleen Garner, suffered moderate injuries in the crash and were taken to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, Weldy said. Berrett’s husband was not injured.
