BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Indians Put McDowell on Disabled List

The Cleveland Indians put pitcher Jack McDowell on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 22 and will replace him on the 25-man roster with infielder Casey Candaele from triple-A Buffalo.

Joe Carter will get $6.5 million next season under the terms of his contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays. On Wednesday, the Blue Jays announced one-year extensions for Carter and Manager Cito Gaston. . . .
