Efficient Graffiti Removal Praised
An innovative way of getting graffiti removed has proved so successful that the City Council did not even discuss it this week when the contract was up for renewal. Members unanimously approved having the San Gabriel Valley Boys and Girls Club keep doing the job.
“To date, the services provided to the city of Cypress have been excellent, with all graffiti called in by 8:30 a.m. removed that same day,†Public Works Director Mark Christoffels said.
In a written report, Christoffels urged the council to contract with the youth club for a third year.
The cost of annual graffiti removal varies according to number of instances. Christoffels estimated the bill for fiscal 1996-97 at about $24,000. Officials have said that contracting with the graffiti-removal service is cheaper than having city employees do the work.
The youth club is based in El Monte in Los Angeles County. It also provides graffiti removal, under contract, for several other cities in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
“This nonprofit organization provides quality services,†Christoffels said.
