Looking for Casket, Police Find Remains

ANAHEIM — Police looking for a casket missing from a mortuary found what appeared to be two complete human skeletons and a bag of cremated remains Thursday at the home of a former mortuary employee, officials said.
Managers at an Anaheim mortuary had reported that a casket had disappeared and said they suspected the former employee, Lt. Stephen Sain said in a prepared statement.
When detectives served a search warrant at the home in the 500 block of Colorado Street, they found two caskets, each containing a skeleton, Sain said. But they didn’t find the particular casket they were looking for.
“It was determined that the caskets were not stolen from the mortuary business reporting the crime,” Sain said.
Near the caskets was a bag, apparently containing cremated remains.
The coroner’s office will examine the skeletons and the cremated remains today.
Police did not release the name of the employee or the mortuary but said no one has been arrested.
