Spain’s Gonzalez Proves His Worth

Raul Gonzalez finally showed why he’s Spain’s $12-million man.
The Spanish pro league star scored two goals, including the winner in the 93rd minute as the defending Olympic gold medalists overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Australia, 3-2, in a Group B game at Orlando, Fla.
Gonzalez’s decisive goal for Spain (2-0-1) came on a header off a pass from Ivan De la Pena.
Aurelio Vidmar scored twice in the first 11 minutes for Australia (1-2).
In the other Group B game, France (2-0-1) defeated Saudi Arabia, 2-1, at Miami. Antoine Sibierski scored from 18 yards out in the 49th minute to beat Saudi Arabia (0-3).
Sibierski took Vikash Dhorasoo’s cross from near the end line and scored the tiebreaker.

In Group A play, Argentina and Tunisia played to a 1-1 tie at Birmingham, Ala. Argentina (1-0-2) went ahead early, then was outplayed for long stretches by undermanned Tunisia (0-2-1).
