NEW JERSEY : Governor Tested for Lyme Disease

Gov. Christine Todd Whitman was given a blood test to determine whether a flu-like illness she has had for a month is Lyme disease. Whitman said she felt well enough to maintain a full work schedule despite lingering fatigue, and didn’t go to a doctor until last week when she became bedridden with fever. Whitman, who turns 50 on Sept. 26, has been receiving antibiotics. Lyme disease is carried by deer ticks. Most are in the Northeast.
