Four-Star Films : ‘The Wild Bunch’
So violent it wrenches your guts, so beautiful it tightens your lungs. Sam Peckinpah’s furious ode to the passing of the Old West, to that curious code of honor that exists among thieves on their way to Mexico. Stars include William Holden (right), Ernest Borgnine (left), Warren Oates, Edmond O’Brien and Ben Johnson. As years and controversies recede, it becomes clearer that this is a great movie; the opening and climax alone--two cinematic dynamite blasts of brilliantly choreographed carnage--make it unique in film history (KCOP Friday at 7 p.m.).
