Car Crashes Into the Lobby of Care Home
NEWPORT BEACH — An 84-year-old man lost control of his new Lincoln Continental on Wednesday and crashed into the lobby of a convalescent home where he lives, fire officials said.
Elvin C. Huticheson was parking his car when it lurched over a curb, crashed through a wrought-iron fence and shattered the front door and facade of Newport Villa West at 393 Hospital Road, according to John Blauer, spokesman for the Newport Beach Fire and Marine Department.
The car narrowly missed two residents, Blauer said. No one was injured, but damage to the building was estimated at $10,000, he said.
Crews were busy Wednesday afternoon securing a building support column damaged in the crash, Blauer said.
