A 71-year-old grandmother from Oxnard was taken into custody Wednesday morning on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale.

Juana Martinez was arrested at 7 a.m. after narcotics officers from the Oxnard and Port Hueneme police departments served warrants on her North Harrison Street home in the Colonia area of Oxnard.

Officers seized 16 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, said Oxnard Police Det. Benjamin Chavez. A granddaughter who lives at the residence was not taken into custody, he said.

This is the second time in three months that officers served narcotics warrants and made arrests at the house, Chavez said. On the previous occasion, members of Martinez’s family were arrested, but the woman was not involved.

The street value of the marijuana seized Wednesday is difficult to determine, Chavez said, because such amounts are easy to get and prices fluctuate.

Martinez was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail, and her arraignment was scheduled for Monday.
