IRA Attacked Barracks in Germany, Caller Says

DUBLIN, Ireland — A telephone caller claimed responsibility on behalf of the IRA on Sunday for a mortar attack last week on a British military base in Germany.
“The attack mounted against the military installation was carried out by one of our units,” a man identifying himself as a representative of the IRA told RTE, the Irish state broadcasting network.
Friday’s attack on the British base at Osnabruck in northwest Germany caused no injuries but damaged buildings and vehicles. If the caller was correct, it would have been the first Irish Republican Army attack on British forces in mainland Europe in six years.
