‘Dollhouse’ of Horrors
Based on a review by Kenneth Turan (“ ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse’--Barbie Never Had It This Bad,†May 24), I went to see “Welcome to the Dollhouse,†which he referred to as “bitingly funny.†I sat through 1 hour and 27 minutes of the movie without hearing the first laugh from the audience, and I did not feel the least inclined to laugh myself.
The movie is about how teenagers, parents and teachers hurt teenagers. I would recommend it for its insight to parents, teachers or any person involved with teenagers. However, anybody over the age of 14 who thinks it is funny should get professional help.
Mr. Turan also said “ ‘Dollhouse’ leaves us uncertain whether to laugh or cry.†Possibly Mr. Turan may have been one of the “popular†teenagers in his school who thought it was funny to make fun of those less fortunate than himself. If so, he needs to learn that hurting others is not funny.
