BIG BEAR : 2 Killed, 1 Injured in Small Plane Crash

An elderly couple were killed and the pilot critically injured Thursday when their single-engine airplane crashed shortly after takeoff from Big Bear City Airport, authorities said. The Piper 250 Comanche lost power and was trying to return to the airport when it plunged into shallow water on the eastern edge of Big Bear Lake, said Yomar Cleary, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The couple were not identified, pending notification of relatives.
