Parent Views Sought on School Discipline
The school board is inviting parents and other community members to discuss discipline policy at two meetings this month.
Many of the proposed changes, such as a requirement that students who bring guns or knives on campus be expelled, are mandated by recent state law, said Peggy Adin, Santa Ana Unified School District director of pupil support services. While making those changes, Adin said, the district is reexamining its entire disciplinary policy. Trustees are scheduled to adopt a new policy June 25.
Teachers and other district staff members are also being asked for suggestions.
The community meetings will be on consecutive Fridays, this week and next, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the school district’s board room, 1601 E. Chestnut Ave.
