American, British Carriers Reportedly Near Pact: American Airlines and British Airways are ready to announce a deal to share marketing, sell seats on each other’s planes and to link their frequent-flier programs, the New York Times said. The deal will be announced Tuesday, the newspaper said, citing sources familiar with the proposal. It would result in what is known as a code-sharing arrangement, in which airlines try to give the appearance of a single route between distant cities. The deal would yield a route network covering Europe, Asia and North and South America. Federal regulators would have to approve the pact.
