A woman was in critical condition after being found unconscious and bleeding from the head in Central Park. Police said the attack happened in broad daylight. “This is a very brutal crime, a very brutal beating,” Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani said. The 5-foot-2, 110-pound victim had neither a purse nor any identification with her when she was found by another woman who called 911, Police Commissioner Howard Safir said. She was in critical condition at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, the hospital said. It was not immediately clear whether she had been robbed or raped, or why no one saw or heard the attack.
