After nearly 27 years at the helm of the Conejo Recreation and Park District, Tex Ward is set to receive an award Thursday from the Thousand Oaks Rotary Club for his efforts to improve the lives of local youth.
Ward has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Wilfred A. Rothschild Youth Leadership Award, named after a longtime city resident, now deceased, who helped establish many local youth programs.
Ward said he was honored to be picked and pleased to see community recognition for the district’s efforts--including youth sports leagues and afternoon programs for children of working parents.
“I think it’s good for people to recognize what you’re about and what you’re doing,” he said.
The award, given each year to an area resident with a history of service to the community’s younger residents, will to be presented at Thursday’s Rotary Club meeting at the Los Robles Inn.
