Southern Section Nears Deal to Hold Title Games at Pond
Southern Section officials have reached an agreement to hold its basketball championships at the Pond next year, a section official said.
A three-year deal with Ogden Facility Management Corp., which operates the Pond, ended this year. But Pond officials refused to give another three-year contract, a section official said. Instead, they offered a one-year deal for games on March 7-8.
“There are a lot of variables involved when you are doing such bookings,†said Tim Ryan, assistant general manager of the Pond.
A source said that Pond officials were keeping dates open in case the Clippers decided to move to Anaheim.
Pond officials also offered the CIF a one-year deal for its Southern California Regional championships on March 15. It also had a three-year deal previously.
Section and state officials are still awaiting paperwork for the deal.
The CIF will hold its state championship games at the Pond on March 21-22.
