Volunteers Start Face-Lift for School
Parents, teachers and neighbors will be cleaning up Valencia Park Elementary School on Saturday in what they hope is the first in a series of volunteer efforts.
PTA President Sylvia Zapata Martinez said the 860-pupil school, which hasn’t been painted in more than three decades, is in dire need of a face-lift. She said she hopes Saturday’s project will lead to other improvements.
Among other things, she said, “we’re going to paint book shelves, scrape old tape off windows and clean the bathrooms.†In addition, giant cork boards will be installed on outdoor hallways so that teachers may display students’ work.
Volunteers will be at work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information: (714) 526-0847.
