Home Burglars Net $1 Million in Jewelry
A low-key heist in a quiet neighborhood netted thieves an estimated $1 million in jewelry, police said.
Sometime in the early morning hours on Wednesday, burglars broke into a home in the 7400 block of Nita Street, scouring the house for valuables, according to Det. Fred Duitsman of the West Valley Division burglary detail.
In a bedroom, the thieves found a small safe, which they removed from the house, possibly because they were unable to open it, police said.
The safe contained a variety of precious stones and jewelry, police said.
The home’s occupants, two women who had some dealings in the jewelry business, according to Duitsman, were not at home when the break-in occurred.
Detectives are still investigating.
